BENNINGTON -- Pauline M. Therrien, 83, a resident of Grove Road in Shaftsbury, died on Sunday evening, Nov. 19, 2006, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a long illness.She was born in Bennington on May 1, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Marjorie (Morse) Smith. She received her education in local schools. She married Howard J. Therrien on June 21, 1943. He predeceased her in 1973.Over the years, Pauline had been employed as a nurses aide and at custodial work in the area, but for the past many years she had remained a home maker. She enjoyed playing cards, playing Yatzhee, reading and was an avid New York Yankees fan.Pauline was a communicant of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Donna Therrien of Gray, Maine; her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Dana Chellis, of Shaftsbury; and three grandchildren, John Therrien, Mike Therrien and his wife Maryrose, and her granddaughter, Robin Therrien. Pauline is survived by one great-grandson, Michael Parker. She has one sister surviving, Betty Phillips of Bennington, and one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Rita Smith of Arlington, as well as several niece, nephews and cousins. She also is survived by her special caregivers; Debbie and Carrie Radcliffe, and her cat, Nutmeg. Pauline is predeceased by one sister, Geraldine Surdam, one daughter, Cammi Therrien and four grandchildren, Jennifer Chellis, Danielle Chellis, Dana Chellis and Jason Chellis. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday morning, Nov. 22, at 9:30 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. in Bennington, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Interment will follow in the family lot in Hinsdillville Cemetery in North Bennington.For those who desire, memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation, Vermont Chapter, through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, Vermont 05201.
