Mrs. Ethel Virginia Johnson was born November 22, 1946, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Mr. Henry L. and Virginia R. Pennington. She passed peacefully at G.W. Personal Care on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. She attended schools in the Savannah-Chatham County System, graduating from A.E. Beach High in 1964, later attending Harris Area Trade School and acquired skills in Business Administration. Baptized at an early age, she was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, having served in the past as church secretary. She was very active in many civic organizations. She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter and son, Jennifer Nicole Brown and Kirklin (Felicia) Brown; a loving sister, Essie (John) Rayford of Valdosta, Ga.; grandchildren, Shanteria (Melvin) Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas, Samario M. Brown, Kirsten Brown, Kirklin Brown Jr., Ashley Brown and Christopher Brown; four great-grandchildren, two nieces, Leslie (Terry) Odom and April (Malcom) Doyle; aunt, Mrs. Ruth Mention; several caring cousins, Dr. Rosilyn Ryals of Oakland, Calif., Gloria Burnette of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Ada Mention of Newark, Del.; godmother, Alzata Tharpe; god brother, Willie Chisholm; other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 10, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Savannah, Ga., with Pastor Clarence Boles as eulogist and Pastor Michael Stamps officiating. Viewing will be held Sunday, May 9, 2010, from noon-6 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Ga. Craig R. Tremble Funeral Home, Pembroke Chapel, is in charge of services.
