STATESBORO, Ga. - Mrs. Edna D. Kellogg Watkins, age 84, peacefully departed this life Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility, with her loving family at her side. She attended the Rome Colored High School and at an early age she became a member of Thankful Baptist Church. After marriage, Mrs. Watkins later became a member of the Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as an usher and sang in the choir. Throughout her years in Rome, Georgia, she worked as an insurance agent for Guaranty Life Insurance Company and North Carolina Mutual. She was also employed at the First National Bank.In 1995, she and her husband moved to Statesboro, Georgia, and became active members of The Body of Christ Assembly, Inc., where she sang in the choir, served as a financial manager and church mother. She attended and volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center in Statesboro, Georgia, until her health declined.Those left to cherish memories are a loving husband of 64 years, Mr. Moses Clark Watkins, Statesboro, Ga.; her children, Ms. Sharon Watkins, Rome, Ga., Mrs. Annette (J.R.) Holloway, Mrs. Edna (George) Lovett, Pastor Samuel C. (Diane) Watkins, all of Statesboro, Ga., Mr. Derrick (Donna) Watkins, Virginia Beach, Va., and Mrs. Ingrid Kathleen (Paul) Cantrell, Atlanta, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends.Mrs. Watkins' family will receive friends on Friday evening from the hours of 7-8 p.m. in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill's Mortuary, Inc.Services reflecting the essence of Mother Edna D. Kellogg Watkins will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the Body of Christ Assembly, Inc., 2103 Bryan Court, Statesboro, Ga. 30461, with Minister Derrick Solomon, presiding, and Pastor Samuel C. Watkins, pastor, as eulogist. Her moment will begin at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Burial will follow in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.Mother Watkins will be placed in state at the church on the day of service, one hour prior to the service.
