He was born in Walhalla, SC and is the son of the late Harmon and Rosa Lee Ertzber Smith.He is the husband of Ima Emming Smith. Before retiring, he worked as a driver for the Canteen Vending Co. He is also a Baptist.In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by 3 children: Christy Bolding Hawk of Myrtle Beach, Charles Allen (Christian) Smith of Anderson, and Michael Wayne (Amy) Smith, Jr. of Williamston; 2 step-sons: Travis and Joseph Emming of Greenville; 2 brothers: James (Vonda) Smith of Belton and Terry Smith of Greenville; 5 grandchildren: Shane Roper, Dustin Crooks Gasque, Alexis Smith, Alyssa Smith, and Alana Smith.
