McCALL Johnson "Jack" Davis McCall, 77, born Oct. 8, 1930 in Charlotte, NC., died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He grew up in Harrisonburg, VA, and lived 15 years in Orange Park, FL and the past 15 years in Savannah, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents: Margaret E. and Samuel L. McCall, Sr., brother, Samuel L. McCall, Jr., and sisters, Elizabeth Yates and Mary Frances Gaylor. He retired in 1969 from the US Air Force after 20 years of service, having retired as a Chief Master Sergeant, and was a veteran having served in the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the Charter Class at the University of North Florida; and worked from 1969 - 1984 in the payroll division for Gulf Life Insurance Co, and from 1984 - 1992 for Loyal American Life Insurance of Tampa. During his retirement years: he did volunteer work for the Chatham County Republican Headquarters, served as Treasurer for 2 years; ESGR - served the National Guard and Reserve Troops being deployed from Fort Stewart, officiated at High School Football Games for 20 years, umpired softball in Savannah, GA, was one of the founding members of the Savannah Volleyball Officials Association which began 11 years ago, and he served as the scheduling secretary. He was currently Vice President of the Gulf Life Ole Timers Club, an Avid sports fan, and a season ticket holder for FSU football and Jacksonville Jaquars. He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Barbara Cler McCall; children, Debra (Wayne) Mikell, Cynthia (Mike) Mitchell, David (Sharon) McCall, and Donna McCall; grandchildren: Amanda Mikell, Rebecca, Melissa, and Garret Mitchell, and Miranda McCall; a great grandchild, Emily Knox; sisters, Patsy Fitzwater and Virginia Bowman; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He had been a member of the Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church since 1992, a member of Solomon's Lodge # 1, F. & A.M.'s, the Scottish Rite Consistory - Valley of Jacksonville, and Alee Shrine Temple. Visitation: 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday at Fairhaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services: 4 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of the Fairhaven Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Dimmitt, officiating. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday in Jacksonville Memory Gardens, with Rev. Scott Yirka, officiating. Remembrances: Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church in Savannah or the charity of your choice.
