Max Swartz, 85, of Brookline, entered into rest on April 13, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Woolfson) Swartz with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Boston, the son of the late Nathan and Ida (Smoller) Swartz, Max was raised in Dorchester. He attended the Boston Public Schools and was a graduate of Boston English High School. A member of the "Greatest Generation", Max enlisted in the United States Navy on June 30, 1943 and attended Naval Prep School in Williamstown, and Aerographers School Training in Lakehurst, N.J. He served in Pensacola, Fla. and Bainbridge, Md. before joining the Hedron FAW#6 Squadron and Fleet Weather Central as an Aerographer's Mate Second Class in Pearl Harbor. Max was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with 2 stars. Upon his honorable discharge on April 23, 1946, Max began his studies at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst from which he received his Bachelor of Science degree. After his graduation, he began his career as a sales representative in the housewares industry. A dedicated family man, Max was a member of the Pacific Lodge of Masons in Amherst, the Shriners, and an active participant in Brookline town government. He will be remembered as a jovial man who always engaged people in conversation and befriended many everywhere he went. In addition to his wife, Max is survived by 3 loving daughters, Harriet Fox of Pebble Beach, Calif., Amy Iselin and her husband Richard of Potomac, Md., and Margery Monahan and her husband John of Medfield; 8 cherished grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Justine, Alexis, Gregory, Lindsay, Alex, David, Jillian, Cynthia; his adored great-granddaughter Riley; and his dear sister Rose Brown of Revere. Graveside funeral services were held on Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
