Mary Olene McGee, age 83, of Florence, Ala., passed away Monday, Jan. 31, at Harbert Hills Academy Nursing Home, Savannah, Tenn.She was born April 1, 1927, in Lauderdale County to Wheeler and Myrtle Ray. She retired from the city of Florence Electricity Department after 40-plus years of service and was a faithful member of East Florence Church of Christ. Olene dedicated her life after retirement in taking care of her husband, Joe, of 28 years, and her mother before their deaths.She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Hamner Ray; her father, Wheeler Ray; her husband, Clyde Criag (Joe) McGee; her sister and brother-in-law, Birdie Mae and Wise Crunk.She is survived by her brother, James Otis Ray (wife, Wilda), Bogalusa, La. She also is survived by one stepson, Jerry B. McGee, Leighton, Ala. Olene did not have children, but had much love and affection for stepgrandchildren, Butch McGee, Tuscumbia, Ala., Timothy McGee, Leighton, Ala., Kathy Alexander, Evans, Ga., JoAnn Nix, Leighton, Ala.; and six step-great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a niece, Nancy Crunk Nations, Lawrenceville, Ga.; special cousin and guardian, Maxine R. Sockwell; aunt, Geneva Nichols; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Colbert Memorial Chapel, Tuscumbia, Ala., with the funeral to follow 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be at Colbert Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Steve Condra.Pallbearers will be Gary James, Charles Beavers, Butch McGee, Andrew McGee, Craig Morris and Harold Kimbrough.The family would like to express special thanks to Randall Dickman, administrator, the nurses, staff and students of Harbert Hill Academy Nursing Home. The dedication, care and love that was shown to Olene during her stay with them is a testimony of the love of Christ. They filled her last four years with loving care and she died with this "special" family by her side.
