Over the course of her adult life, she had been treated for several forms of cancer and had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer. Her recent course of treatment was difficult on her body so, with the continual support of her family and friends surrounding her, she passed. She was born on Nov. 23, 1935, the daughter of the late Henrietta Loring Gray and the late Harold Sonia, in Weymouth. She attended elementary school in Bath, attended a few years of parochial school at St. Joseph's, then returned to public school for her high school years and graduated from Gardiner High School in 1954. She later met and married Gerry Nolan, and they lived in Connecticut. When their marriage dissolved, she returned to Maine and continued working in the field she loved. She was hired at Central Maine Power Co., in 1965 and shortly thereafter worked as secretary/administrative assistant to Normand Temple, vice president of public and government affairs. When Norm Temple retired, she worked briefly for David Flanagan; then, in 1988, transferred to Maine Yankee. She worked at Maine Yankee in public and government affairs, then personnel, until her retirement in 1996.Mary loved history, government, antiques, politics and, of course, cats. She also studied Russian and the customs of the Middle East. She was predeceased by her mother, Henrietta Loring Gray, in 1988; and, later, her father, Harold Sonia. She is survived by a nephew, David Kearns and his wife, Katie, of South Portland; cousins David Mackenzie and his wife, Pat, of California, Robert "Bob" Mackenzie and his wife, Helen, of Washington, D.C., and Jacquelyn Murphy and her husband, Tom, of Florida. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to HealthReach Hospice and Volunteers of Gardiner for their excellent care and attention to Mary while she was a patient. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HealthReach Hospice, P.O.
