Mary Gray, born in 1915, died on December 5, 2008. Please consult the obituary here:
GRAY, Mary Margaret Passed away at Royal Jubilee Hospital in the early hours of Friday, December 5, 2008. Mom was born in Windsor, ON on November 12, 1915. She graduated from the Home Economics program at Ontario Agricultural College (University of Guelph) and worked in her chosen profession for several years. She met and married our Dad, George Gray in 1942. Two daughters; Nancy Lewthwaite (Lorne), Marilyn Wainwright (Eric); and four grandchildren, Jenny Smith, Tiffany Wainwright, Brian Lewthwaite, Ryan Wainwright and two great-grandchildren Spencer and Justin Smith, who were all the joy of her life. Dad's naval career took them to live in various places across Canada and mom was always able to turn a new location into a warm and loving home. She was the consummate hostess and marvelous cook. She volunteered for many organizations including Brownies, Victoria Y.W.C.A., Matson Sunset Lodge and for many years judged the food at the Saanichton Fair. She was an active member in the original Home Economics Association in Victoria. For several years she taught evening cooking classes in Halifax, NS. She exhibited an amazing knowledge of Geography and knew every back road in southern Ontario and in BC. She enjoyed travelling, weaving, reading and loved to shop! Mom was fiercely independent and in spite of compromised health, she fulfilled her wish of being able to stay in her own home until she passed away. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Amanda, Andrea, Anna, Ally, Becca and other Eldercare home support workers for their wonderful care and attention to mom. Thank you to Dr. Donna Clements and the staff at RJH emergency, HUB unit and the PARR. Special thanks to all mom's friends and neighbors for their kindness and visits. Both greatly enriched her daily life. Memorial donations in mom's name may be made to the M.S. Society, 1004 North Park St., Victoria, BC, V8T 1C6. A celebration of mom's life will be held on Sunday, December 14th from 2:00-4:00 @ 1559 Mount Douglas X Road. 516779
