Mary Edith Newberry Burke, of Louisville, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, in the presence of her children and grandchildren. Born in Clintwood, VA, on August 27, 1921, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, devoted spouse, master retail salesperson, avid fisherman and lover of God and all his children. She was married to Faris Newberry until his untimely death in 1972, and was then married to Dawson Burke in 1981, until his death in 2000. "Miss Edith" was a member of Little Zion Old Regular Baptist Church. Miss Edith is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Doloris and Loren Bowling, with whom she lived since June of 2000; her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Doris Newberry; her grandchildren, Kara Bowling and her fiancé, Michael Klitzner, Jana Bowling Aitken and her husband, Keith, Jay Bullen, Donnie Newberry and his wife, Jennifer, and Faris Todd Newberry and his wife, Angela; great-grandchildren, Laura, Jack and Faris Nash Newberry and Sidney Klitzner; great-granddogs, Merry Brandybuck, Margaret and Buddy; twin brother, Jerry C. Mullins; and many adoring nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at family-owned Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Dutton Cemetery in Clintwood. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Valley Christian Church Memorial Fund or Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship Fund.
