Newkirk, Mary B. NIVERVILLE, N.Y. Mary Bernadette "Bunny" Newkirk, passed away March 25, 2009, following a period of brief failing health, and was reunited with her beloved husband of 59 years, Tom and her daughter, Mary Jean and son, Billy Ray. She was born March 8, 1923 to the late Mary and Henry Van De Wal in Schodack Landing, N.Y. She was married to Thomas E. Newkirk in November, 22, 1942. He predeceased her on April 15, 2000. Bunny was a loving and devoted mother to her extended family. She worked at Reilly Mills in Valatie for over 30 years. She was an active 4H leader for many years. She loved to cook and bake. Her home was known for the great baked goods always ready to share. She loved to tend her flower and vegetable gardens. She was an accomplished seamstress, always making fine items for her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Thomas Newkirk of Freehold, N.Y., David Newkirk (Debbie) of Hudson, N.Y, Veronica Turner (Roger) of Whitehall, N.Y., George Newkirk (Debbie) of Niverville, Michael Newkirk (Christine) of Weybridge, Vt., Elizabeth Holton of Clifton Park, N.Y. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jeannie Carpenter of Schenectady, N.Y. in 2003 and a son, Billy Ray Newkirk, who died in infancy. She is survived also by a sister, V. Catherine Cunningham of Albany, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grand- children, and three great-great- grandchildren. Bunny was a member of the Church of the Assumption in Schodack Landing, N.Y. for many years. For the last 30 years, she was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Church with Rev. John Molyn officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie. For those who wish, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene, 47 Liberty St., Catskill, NY 12414.
