Martha Christine Connolly, 79, passed away on January 1, 2014. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 27, 1934 to Olgine Peterson Vetterlein and Fredrick Moore. She had a happy childhood raised by her mother and step-father Walter Vetterlein in Wappenger Falls, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Maureen Connolly and brother-in-law Frank Connolly. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James J Connolly; her children: Christine Phillips (John), Kathleen Connolly, James Connolly (Michele); her grandchildren: Lindsay Phillips, Julia Phillips, Carson Connolly, Cole Connolly, and Paige Connolly; her sister-in-law Patricia Connolly, and nice Patrice Vellecca. Martha was raised on a farm and attended the local school in Wappenger Falls NY before the family moved in 1945 to a brownstone in Brooklyn on 10th St near 6th Ave. Martha was very active in the Lutheran Club and loved the diversity of the neighborhood. Martha graduated from Bay Ridge High School in 1952 and worked in finance at AT&T. Martha will be remembered by all who knew her as a remarkable lady, welcoming and kindhearted. She was the quintessential Mom, not just to her children, but to all their friends, classmates and neighborhood children. Her example of kindness, understanding, sense of humor and generosity will influence all who were fortunate enough to spend time with her. There will be a private celebration of life service with immediate family and friends.
