GIBBONS Marie Settle Gibbons, 92, of Stratford, died peacefully on December 31 at the Bridgeport Hospital. She was the wife of the late James S. Gibbons. Born on March 25, 1918 in Weehawken, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Estelle Gove and Oswald D. Settle of Short Hills, NJ. Marie was a 1936 graduate of Virginia Intermont College. She had been a Norwalk resident most of her life, having moved to Stratford in 1988. Marie was a long time volunteer at the Treasure House in Norwalk and was a member of the Woman's Board of the Norwalk Hospital and of the Shore and Country Club. In more recent years, she was actively involved in Chapter V of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization.) Her survivors include three sons: James and his wife Sharon of Wilmington, NC, Richard and his wife Linda of Fairfield, and John and his wife Vicki of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 5 at Grace Lutheran Church (150 Chapel Street in Stratford.) There will be no calling hours.
