SUMMERS Marie Elizabeth Marjenhoff Summers, 73, of Charleston, South Carolina, Died Friday November 9th, 2007, at Hospice of Charleston. Marie was born on October 23, 1934 in Jacksonville, Florida to Alex Diedrich and Marie Thompson Marjenhoff. She was raised in Jacksonville and attended Southside Grammar school and Landon High School, graduating in 1952. She received an AA degree from Jacksonville Junior College, and a BA and a master's degree in English from Florida State University, and a PhD in education administration from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Summers taught English at Duncan U Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and at Irmo High School in Irmo, South Carolina. She also served as assistant principle at Irmo High School and St. Andrews High School in Charleston, South Carolina, where she retired in 1998. Scholastic honoraries include Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Signa Tan Delta. During her career, Dr. Summers also worked in the publishing field editing both books and magazines. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Alex, Jr., Frank, Arnold, and Marion and a sister, Margaret Goodhue. Survivors include one son, William Wesley, of Glendale Arizona, one sister, Estelle (Charles) White, and two brothers, Richard (Marjorie) and Fred (Lamar) of Jacksonville, Florida.
