Obituary of Margaret McGill


Margaret Elizabeth (Lib) McGill, 81, of Anderson, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 11, 2007. She was the devoted wife of Jack E. McGill for 61 years and resided in Anderson for over three decades. Lib made many friends in her lifetime and always made God and family priorities.Lib moved to Memphis, Tenn., with her family when she was a child. There she lived until her early twenties, when she married Jack McGill, a sailor in the U.S. Navy from Simpsonville, S.C. They moved to South Carolina and began raising a family while Jack's career in the textile industry developed. Lib and Jack moved throughout the Carolinas, Cincinnati, Ohio, and finally planted roots in Anderson, S.C., in the 1970s. Here, Lib became an active member of her church, Concord Baptist, which brought her much fulfillment.Mrs. McGill was a long-standing member of Concord Baptist Church, serving as Women's Missionary Union (WMU) president, leader of the Women's Circle, and the Bereavement Committee. She was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class and the Senior Adults program. Lib also participated in church events, such as Vacation Bible School, among others. Over Mrs. McGill's life, she served as president of the Ladies Lions Club, as well as Girl Scout and Sunbeam leaders.Lib will be deeply missed by her children, Deedy Rogers of Anderson, Jack McGill Jr. and wife, Susan, of Taylors, S.C., and Cindy Franklin and husband, Bruce, of Anderson; grandchildren, Elizabeth Rogers Joyner and husband, David, of Charleston, S.C., Chad McGill of Taylors, S.C., and Christopher Franklin of Anderson; and her brother, Macon Wherry Jr., and wife, Alice, of Collierville, Tenn.Mrs. McGill was preceded in death by her mother and father, Maude and Macon Wherry Sr., and three sisters, De Laurise Wherry, Marcelle Curtis and Ernestine Mack.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. Don Cox and Rev. Bob Marcaurelle. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the northeast chapel.
