SARATOGA SPRINGS - Lucille Clark Taylor passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Saratoga Hospital. She was 89. Born June 1, 1923, in Melrose, Mass., she was the daughter of the late E.G. Clark and Ruth Nevins Clark. Lucille married Walter Taylor (Wally) after meeting in a lunch line at Boston University. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary with their family this past year. Lucille graduated from Colby College in 1942 and Boston University in 1944. She worked for the Voorheesville Central School District for 23 years. Lucille was instrumental in the beginning of autism research and worked with an autistic savant who would later help Dustin Hoffman better understand the brain disorder for the actor's role in ""Rain Man."" She was a volunteer tutor with the Albany Methodist Society. Lucille was very active in the Voorheesville United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years.Throughout her lifetime, Lucille traveled to 25 countries. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, playing the piano, daily crossword puzzles and dancing to Benny Goodman. Her favorite memories were summers on Cape Cod and winters in Florida with her family. She designed their retirement home on the Cape. Lucille is best remembered for her good humor and willingness to lend an ear to anyone in need. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Lucille is survived by her husband, Walter; her children, Susan Sellers of Westchester, Pa., Bob (Barbara) Taylor of Falmouth, Maine, and JoAnne (Jeff) Gabriels of East Greenbush; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave., at the corner of Henning Road in Saratoga Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walter Taylor and Lucille Clark Taylor Award Fund, c/o Boston University Office of Gifts and Records, 595 Commonwealth Ave., Suite 700 West, Boston, MA 02215.
