Katherine Maddox Owen-Potts, 81, of Tuscumbia, Ala., died Tuesday, June 15, 2004. Visitation will be Thursday, June 17, 2004, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Bill Bedsole will officiate, and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, of Sheffield.Mrs. Owen-Potts was a lifelong resident of Sheffield, Ala., and was a member of First United Methodist Church, of Sheffield.She was retired from the Sheffield Utilities Department as a draftsman and was a founding member of the Tennessee Valley Art Association, serving on the original building committee. She held a number of offices with the TVAC, including president of the board in 1978, board of directors and exhibition coordinator for two decades.She was involved in the expansion of the TVAC into the performing arts with the Ritz Theater and was well known for her original ink note cards of Helen Keller Home and other local historical sites.Mrs. Owen-Potts was an award winning artist and was a member of the Sunday Painters, which is now the Shoals Artists Guild. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold D. Owen.She is survived by her husband, John Murry Potts Sr., of Sheffield; her sons, R. Barry Owen and wife, Paula, of Madison, Ala., Harold David Owen Jr. and wife, Sheila, of Sheffield; her sister, Sarah Ann Washington, of Selma, Ala.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
