Joseph R. Elias of Weymouth, 79, died at home July 30, 2012. Joe was born and raised in Quincy and had lived in Weymouth for the past 46 years. In his early years, he worked at the Quincy Shipyard. He later worked for Weymouth Public Schools for 24 years, retiring in 1997. Joe was known for having a beautiful, manicured yard that he took a lot of pride in. He was a charismatic people person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Son of the late Habah and Rachel (George) Elias, he was the beloved husband of 50 years to Mary (Dattolie) Elias of Weymouth; devoted father of Joseph M. Elias and his wife Denise of Bourne and Steven B. Elias and his wife Michelle of Bridgewater; cherished Papa of Paige and Desiree Elias of Bridgewater and Ashley Widdiss of California; loving brother of Frances Mari of Halifax, Julia Smith of Florida, Charles Elias and Helen Crespi, both of Bridgewater. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home, 3 Charles St. (corner of Charles and Middle streets), East Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 a.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth, at 10 a.m. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
