ObituaryJEROME LEE "JERRY" BARBERITHACA - Jerome Lee "Jerry" Barber, age 45, of Stone Quarry Road, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the Hospicare Residence. Born December 20, 1958 in Ithaca, he was a son of Kenneth Jerome and Joan Van Deman Barber.Jerry attended Ithaca High School and was a member of the Danby Federated Church. He was employed as production manager with Glyph Technologies in Ithaca. Over the past 30 years he has been affiliated with several local bands including "Tokyo," "After Hours," and "Sergeant Stress." Previously, he had been a member of the group "The Now Dimensions." Jerry also worked with many local sound companies as well as working sound at "The Haunt" in Ithaca for several years. Since early childhood, his great interest was in sound and audio. His other interests included trains and computers. Jerry was an accomplished landscaper, creating a beautiful backyard at his home on Stone Quarry Road, where he enjoyed spending quiet times, especially in early mornings with a cup of tea while listening to the frogs croak.In addition to his parents, Kenneth and Joan Barber, Jerry is survived by his life partner, Melissa A. Abbott; brother, Stephen Carl (Pat) Barber and Pat's son, Jay Dietershagen; sisters, Linda (Paul) Fisk and their children, Ginevra and Dana Fisk, Judy (Robert) Boynton and their children, Eric, Jennifer and Shawn Boynton; several aunts. uncles and cousins.Jerry was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Louise Taggert Van Deman Brown and Paul Van Deman; stepgrandmother, Ursula Jones Van Deman; paternal grandparents, Lee O. Barber and Rhoda Hill Barber Larson; stepgrandfather, Carl Larson, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19 at the Danby Federated Church, 1859 Danby Road, Rev. Dr. Wilfred Baez and Majors Ronald and Deborah Lugiano officiating. Burial will follow in Danby Rural Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 17 and from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 18 at the Leon A. Oltz Funeral Home, 1435 Danby Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850 or to the charity of one's choice.
