BARNES, JEAN LaPALME, August 6, 1931 - February 14, 2005 Entered into eternal rest on Valentine's Day, surrounded by her loving family, in Westfield, MA. She leaves her husband of 51 years, Herbert S. Barnes, her children, Bonnie Barnes-Prouty and husband Richardson, Thomas H. Barnes and wife Linda, and Timothy A. Barnes and fiancée Rachel, all of Western, MA. She leaves her daughter, Anne (Barnes) Scheetz and husband Jeff of Orlando, FL. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She leaves Amy P. Barnes, Thomas R. Barnes, Jessica A. Barnes and Anthony Solitario, of Western MA, and the youngest grandchild, Emilie Jean Scheetz, of Orlando. What was so special about Jean is that she touched so many lives, not only in Massachusetts, but also in her second home of Central Florida. As one of the 25 "Superfans" honored at Walt Disney World, she made many friendships through her visits to the famous theme park. She especially loved the Main Street Electrical Parade, and for nearly three decades could be seen at her favorite spot in Frontierland, a lamp post across from the Diamond Horseshoe - wearing her best white Mickey shirt, cheering on the parade performers. She would wait for hours to get a glimpse of the shimmering lights - her eyes sparkled as brightly as any float in that parade. During the daytime, she would often watch the 3PM parade with off duty cast members, and invite them to lunch or dinner. She was a "mom-away-from-mom" for many out of state kids, for others a granma, hence they called her "Granma ELP."There are other things that Jean was known for in life, she worked for John F. Kennedy when he was a State Senator, she volunteered for several organizations, including the Red Cross and American Heart Association. She was a devoted Catholic and Eucharistic Minister. She performed in the theater in her youth, and was a legal secretary in the later years of her life. She even worked airport security for a time. She was a beloved wife, mother, nana and friend. Those who knew her were blessed and she will forever be missed.
