-> Claxton - James H. "J. H." Strickland, 87, passed away May 12, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah. The Evans County native lived in Savannah for a number of years before retiring and moving back to Evans County. He was a pilot in the Air Force during World War II where he flew helicopters until his retirement. He was a State maintenance officer of The Army Air National Guard. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Bacon Strickland of Claxton; one son and daughter -in-law, Jimmie and Doreen Strickland of Savannah; two step-daughters and son-in-law, Patsy and Andy Anderson of Rincon, Penny Mixon of Savannah; one brother, and sister -in-law, Aubrey and Gwen Strickland of Claxton; two grandchildren, Joshua and Emily Strickland of Savannah, several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Friday, May 13, 6:00 p.m. until at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. Funeral: Saturday, May 14, 2:00 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church. Burial: Brewton Cemetery. J.
