Davis, John R. VOORHEESVILLE John R. Davis, 74, of North Main St. died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a brief illness. Born in Rensselaer, John was the son of the late Robert Baxter and Ellen Tilley Davis. He was a longtime resident of Voorhees ville since 1965. He worked for 23 years at Alco Equipment in Albany, retiring as a branch manager in 1988. He then began a partnership with his sons, forming New Scotland Paving Inc. in Voorheesville, now owned and operated by his son, Randy. Since 1997, he has worked for his son Greg at Greg's Towing and Repairs, Inc. as a service writer. John was charter member # 6 of the Guilderland Elks Lodge. He enjoyed Monday night dinners with his grandchildren, watching car races that his sons were involved in, and visiting Lebanon Valley Speedway. He also enjoyed casinos, watching the Yankees, and traveling to Las Vegas with his wife Dorothy and their best friends, Freddy and Joyce. John met his beloved wife of 53 years at Guptill's Skating Arena in Latham. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Morris Davis; his three sons, Greg R. Davis (Yvonne Richard) of Voorheesville, Randy J. Davis (Debbie Proper) of Berne and Richard J. Davis (Jennifer) of Troy; his sisters, Carol Tonkin (Ish) of Rensselaer, Phyllis Hill (Bob) of Rensselaer; his brother, Dennis Davis (Veronica) of E. Greenbush and the late Barbara Gardner; his grandchildren, Jenelle, Ashley, Bryan, Melanie and Ashley.
