IRENE GILBERT Passed away, peacefully, with her family at her side, on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at Lanark Heights, at the age of 84. Irene was born on April 24, 1924 and married Leonard Gilbert after he had completed a tour as a wireless operator/air gunner for the coastal command. They had 63 years together. Irene was a loving mother to Barry, Ann, Paul, Leonard and Michael; cherished grandmother of 20; great-grandmother of 4 and special aunt to Nancy and Russ. Irene established a program for mentally challenged children and adults and formed a committee to maintain its operation. She will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa Street South, Kitchener on Friday, October 24, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The complete Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 49 Blueridge Ave., Kitchener on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. Donations to the Parkinson Society Canada would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at 519-743-8900.
