Green -->H. Bryson McIntyre Green Creek, NC-- Henry Bryson McIntyre, 85, of 688 Chesnee Road, Columbus, NC, died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Brian Center, Hendersonville, NC. He was a native of Polk County all of his life, the son of the late George and Lula Johnson McIntyre, and the husband of Virgie Mahaffey McIntyre. After graduating from Green Creek High School, he served in the United States Navy during WWII and was involved in the landing of American troops on Iwo Jima. After the war he returned to Polk County where he worked as a farmer in the peach and later the poultry business. Mr. McIntyre was an active member of the Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren for sixty years where he served on the Church Board, the Stewardship and Graveyard committees and as a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He will be missed as secretary and treasurer of the senior adult class and as the bell ringer calling worshipers to come. Also, friends and neighbors will miss his yearly delight of planting a vegetable garden which he shared with them. In addition to his wife of 61 years he is survived by two daughters: Teresa McIntyre Mack and husband AL of New Bern, NC and Dawn McIntyre Flory and husband, Phil of Bridgewater, VA. Also, 5 grandchildren, Heather Flory Driver, Seth Flory and Courtney Flory; Jamie Mack Waller and Erin Mack Hermann and a sister, Bobbie McIntyre Byars of Melvin Hill, NC; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be a private family affair at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 in the Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren Church Cemetery with Pastor Earl Byers officiating. The family will receive friends at a luncheon reception immediately following the service in the community Building of the Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren on Saturday. At other times the family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Melvin Hill Church Deacon's Fund or to the Mahaffey Memorial Youth Camp Fund, Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren, 555 Melvin Hill Road, Columbus, NC 28722.
