PITTSFIELD -- Francis H. "Frank" Donovan, 72, of 272 No. Main St., died Sept. 10, 2010, at Pleasant View Center following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Haverhill, Mass. to James J. and Helen Donovan. He was a graduate of St. James High School in 1956. He graduated from Southern New Hampshire University and earned an MBA degree at Franklin Pierce College in Concord. He was employed as a reporter and photographer by the Boston Globe and the New Hampshire Union Leader and Sunday News. He also worked as a media relations specialist for Digital Equipment Corp., where he was the press secretary for retired Adm. Grace Murray Hopper, a computer pioneer. He recently retired as media relations and special events coordinator for Northeast Delta Dental. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He was a 30-year member, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Pittsfield Rotary Club. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 21 in Concord. IN HIS LIFE: Family members include a daughter, Elizabeth D. Kun and her husband, Keith, of Wilmington, Mass.; his mother of Haverhill, Mass.; two brothers, Jay Donovan of Saco, Maine and Thomas Donovan of North Andover, Mass.; two sisters, Helen Lisbon of Plaistow and Marianne Chicarello of Winthrop, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; and two lifelong friends, Albert Wihry and David Flanagan. SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, River Road, Pittsfield. The Rev John Loughnane, pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Floral Park Cemetery, Pittsfield.
