Frances J. Donovan died June 12, 2012. Funeral arrangements are being held by the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, Westfield, N.J. The viewing was Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Mass is today, Saturday, at St. Genevieve's Church, Elizabeth, N.J., at 10 a.m. Interment will be at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia, N.J. Condolences may be sent at www.higginsandbonner.com. As a lifelong resident of Elizabeth, Fran graduated from St. Patrick's High School and attended Palmer Business School in Manhattan. Upon completion of her education, she worked for House & Garden Magazine in New York City as a secretary. Fran later became a licensed insurance agent and was employed by Edward Whelan Insurance and eventually McDowell & McEvoy Insurance in Belleville, N.J., before retiring. Fran donated much of her time to supporting the St. Elizabeth Children's Guild, the March of Dimes and the Democratic Party of Union County, for which she received an invitation to the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. She enjoyed playing the piano, traveling throughout the U.S., and vacationing at her cottage in Manasquan, N.J., with family. Fran was predeceased by her brothers, James and Edward, and sister, Kathryn Bergen. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.
