Dr. JAMES, Esther Kamala (nee Abraham)MBBS., DA., DObRCOGFebruary 04, 1934 - July 26, 2013 It is with deep sadness and loss that we announce the passing of Dr. Esther Kamala James at home due to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Kamala was born in Hyderabad – Deccan, India, of Mrs.Evangeline (Cornelius) and the Rev. Dr. A.C. Abraham. She was granddaughter of Mrs.Esther Siromani and Mr.Lemuel Abraham and Mrs. Sarah and Captain Dr. Benjamin Cornelius. She was the devoted wife of Adolf James for 54 years and loving mother of Anita, Rachel Kalpana, Sheila (Dinesh Shah) and Michael (Isabel Cunado). She bid a joyful and loving farewell to her beloved grandchildren Nalin James Shah, Cecilia Indira Cunado-James and Mariana Kamala Cunado-James. She was predeceased by her sister Indira and by brother Rajender. She obtained her medical degree in 1957 from Osmania University, Hyderabad. In 1958 she married Adolf, her medical college sweetheart. In 1959 they moved to the U.K. where, while working as house surgeon, raising her infant daughters and helping Adolf pass the FRCS, she obtained a Diploma in Anesthesia from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Diploma in Obstetrics from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She obtained further training in anaesthesia in Wichita, Kansas, USA where her son was born. She emigrated with her family to Canada in 1968 and set up solo medical practice in Truro, Nova Scotia. Besides family practice she was a GP-Anaesthetist and ran a busy Obstetric Practice. She was diagnosed with IPF in 1997 and retired in 2004. Kamala James was loved and respected by friends and family for her intelligence, compassion, warmth and courage. Her generosity and honesty were unmatched. She lived life fully. She was as beautiful as the dawn, brilliant as the moon, rooted and strong as the trees and as free-spirited as the birds she loved. She will be profoundly missed by all those who loved her and whom she touched. Friends are invited to visit the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) on Tuesday, July 30th from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel.
