BANGOR - Edward Goodin, 88, husband of the late Helena (Runnells) Goodin, died Jan. 26, 2009, at his home. He was born Feb. 29, 1920, on French Island, Old Town, the fifth of 12 children to Adelard and Agnes (Theriault) Godin. Edward proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II with the 346th Bomb Group, 461st Bomb Squadron, 20th Air Force, Pratt Kansas. He was a hard worker his entire life spending 31 years working at Viner Shoe Co., in the making and packing room. Ed had a good, dry, sharp sense of humor and enjoyed his "22 birthdays" with a leap birthday he celebrated every four years. He had many stories to share about his love of hunting, snowmobiling and fishing, and admits "some got away." Other enjoyments were his time he spent at his camp on Branch Lake, square dancing with Lena with Pine Tree Promanaders, and communicating as a CB'er with the call name "Swamp Fox." He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years and all of his siblings except four who survive him, Florence "Tena" Costain of Holden, Rose Neuts of Westbrook, Loretta French-Carr of Bangor and Fred Godin of Texas; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, including his caregiver, Loretta Andrea Libbey of Holden, Evelyn Crouse and her husband, Paul and family of Michigan and Emily Varnum of Orrington. He will be remembered by very special friends and neighbors, Jay Mishou and his wife, Susan and his daughter, Megan, and Rose Paradis. Family and friends may visit 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, where a service honoring Edward's life will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, with the Rev. Elaine Hewes, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bangor, presiding. Burial will be in the spring in Howland.
