JOHNSON _ Elizabeth (Bessie) nee Mackenzie September 12, 1910 - October 6, 2004 It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Bessie passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of October 6. Bessie was born in Duffton, Banffshire, Scotland. At the age of two, she came to Canada with her parents and siblings. They settled in Calgary and Bessie spent most of her life in the Hillhurst/Sunnyside communities. She worked in the office of West Printing Co. for nearly fifty years, retiring at the age of sixty-eight. Her proudest accomplishments were her family and being a member of Hillhurst United Church for ninety-two years. Bessie was predeceased by her husband Norman in 1990; also by a sister, Isabella Allen (Bert); and five brothers, Ian (Blanche), Bill (Rose), Ronnie (Evelyn), Jim (Eileen) and Herb Mackenzie. She leaves to mourn her passing, a daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and Bob Christensen; two grandchildren, Scott (Alena) Christensen and Cindy (Dave) VandenEnden; as well as her two special blessings, great-grand-children, Hayley Christensen and Asher VandenEnden. Also mourning her passing is sister-in-law Janet Mackenzie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Visitation at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Bessie's Life will be held at Hillhurst United Church, 1227 Kensington Close N.W., Calgary on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. A private family Interment will take place at Queen's Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Hillhurst United Church Memorial Fund, 1227 Kensington Close N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 3J6.
