Services for the Rev. Donald P. Davis, 74, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Trinity Baptist Church, Cayce, S.C. Burial was private. Retired and active ministers were honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Highway, Cayce, SC 29033. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, assisted the family. Don went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013. Born in Chester, he was the son of the late Paul James and Bleaker Darnell Davis. Relationships were always a significant part of Don's life and ministry. Eight years ago, Don retired on his 30th anniversary as Senior Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, S.C. The church awarded him the honor of Pastor Emeritus. He felt led to redirect his ministry by moving from one church to helping a number of churches in transition through preaching and working with the leadership. This change also gave him the time to work on his passion of mentoring and encouraging young pastors. Pastor Don graduated from Chester High School, North Greenville Junior College, Furman University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and served his internship in Pastoral Care at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, where he met a beautiful nurse, his wife Marie Buttemere. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1962 at Westside Baptist Church in Chester. He was the Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church in Columbia, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church in Kershaw, Senior Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce for 30 years, Interim Pastor of First Calvary Baptist Church in Leesville, S.C., and Interim Pastor of First Baptist Church of Gaston. Following these interim ministries, Don returned to Trinity to serve as the Pastor of Outreach and Senior Adults. Pastor Don served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the S.C. Baptist Convention during two terms of service. He was Chairman of the Search Committee that presented Dr. Carlisle Driggers to be the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the S.C. Baptist Convention. He was on the Board of Trustees at North Greenville University, and performed leadership training for ministers through the Lexington Baptist Association. Pastor Don also received the Order of The Palmetto Award from the Governor's Office. Don and his wife, Marie, were married 48 years and have one daughter, Allison Davis Cooner (Stewart), plus a beautiful eight-year-old granddaughter, Ashley. All that Ashley had to say was, "Come on Poppy, let's go," and Don was off and running. He is also survived by a sister, Paula Davis McIntosh (Paul). The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Steven Madden, Dr. Jeffery Hook, Dr. Amy Epps, Dr. Taimur Sher (Mayo Clinic) and a heartfelt thanks to the ICU and PCU nursing staff at Lexington Medical Center for their compassion and loving care of Don and his family.
