GORDO Charles Kirk "Charlie" McGee, age 73, of Gordo, died March 21, 2008, at DCH Regional Medical Center after a lengthy struggle with illness. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Sandifer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Joann Beard.Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Helen Christine Robertson McGee of Gordo; son, Darren McGee (Alicia) of Gordo; sister, June "Tootsie" Watkins of Gordo; brothers, Sam "Boots" McGee, Jr. (Nell) of Gordo and Bob McGee (Faye) of Gordo; grandchildren, Meredith and Collin McGee, and Madison Tidwell; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friend, Billy Ryan.Charlie was born April 24, 1934, in Gordo, to the late Sam and Annie Laurie Parker McGee. He graduated from Gordo High School and served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He received his technical degree in electronics technology from Shelton State Technical School and retired as chief of the electronics shop in the College of Engineering at the University of Alabama with 33 years of service. He loved hunting and socializing at the "bus," gardening, and outdoor activities. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Charlie will be remembered as a hardworking dependable husband, father, and grandfather who was deeply devoted to his family.Pallbearers will be Randy Watkins, Mitch McGee, Tim Robertson, Rex Robertson, Kent Robertson, and Doug Cannon.Honorary pallbearers are Billy Ryan, current and retired co-workers at the University of Alabama College of Engineering, past and present members of Sycamore Hunting Club, Dr. Scott Fulham, Dr. Phil Hemstreet, and Dr. Dinesh Chandra and Pickens County Medical Home Health, Lisa Pate, and Cathy Taylor.
