Carolyn Loree Jowers Williams, of Forsyth County, passed away surrounded by her devoted children on Feb. 13, 2015. Carolyn was born on May 9, 1932, in Rome, Ga. She was president of her senior class at the Rome Girls High School. She attended, the then named, North Georgia College (NGC) in Dahlonega, Ga., where she met the love of her life, Robert S. "Gunny" Williams Jr. They were pictured as "The Couple Most In Love" at NGC in the 1951 yearbook. Once commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army, he married Carolyn and they began 30 adventurous years of the joys and hardships of military family life until Gunny retired as a full colonel. Their strong bond was shared by their son, Robert Samuel "Sam" Williams III, and Cynthia Loree Williams Teston. Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her mischievous sense of humor, delivered so gently, was of great delight to her amused grandchildren. She had a keen interest in people and a welcoming spirit that affected many newcomers who sought and found a loving church family at New Hope United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Ga. Many heralded Carolyn as their reason to make her beloved church family theirs also.Carolyn loved entertaining and being a Southern lady. She relished playing bridge with her friends in the Cumming Bridge Club. She was an active member of the Forsyth County Homemaker's Club and of the New Hope United Methodist Church's Women's Group. Most importantly, she was loving, generous and of wise counsel. She was surrounded by loving family but also with many loving friends, in particular, Mozelle Floyd, Linda Cranford, Mary Sulcer, Maxine Davis and Susan Dearth.Carolyn Jowers Williams, known by her grandchildren as "Grandmere" and "Gagoo," was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert S. "Gunny" Williams Jr.; her parents, Samuel Dewey and Loree Jowers; and her adored brother, Dewey Jowers. She leaves behind children, Sam and Sue Williams of Gainesville, Ga., Cindy and Butch Teston of Dahlonega, Ga.; grandchildren, Rebecca Williams Cameron of Gainesville, Ga., Clint and Natalie Teston of Gainesville, Ga., Carolyne Loree Teston of New York City, N.Y., Robert Jowers "Robby" Williams of Athens, Ga.; great-grandchild, David Baxter Cameron III, and dozens of grateful family members and friends. A celebration of life service will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at New Hope United Methodist Church, preceded by visitation at McDonald and Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
