REID, BARBARA L. Barbara Louise Mylius Reid, 81, resident of Gainesville, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in the North Florida Regional Hospital, following a sudden illness. Mrs. Reid was born in Dallas, Texas, to the late Bernard Henry and Jane Louise Norman Mylius, and was raised in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She graduated from L. S. U., where she met her husband, the late Charles Edward Reid, Ph. D, to whom she was married for 52 years until his death in 2000. Mrs. Reid moved to Gainesville in 1948, graduated from the University of Florida with a masters in Rehabilitation Counseling, and worked for many years as a social worker for the Dept. of Children and Families. Mrs. Reid was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and worked very hard to live out her Christian faith by her work with disadvantaged children and her opposition to the death penalty. Late in life, Mrs. Reid also developed a passion for genealogy. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dr. Elizabeth Ann Watts. Survivors include; two daughters, Jean Barbara Reid, Ph. D., of Gainesville, and Helen Ann "Nann" Bell (The Rev. Michael), of Hillman, Michigan; one Son, Edward Reid (Melynda), of Tallahassee; one Brother, Charles Bernard Mylius, (Maria), of Houston, Texas; one Granddaughter, Emily Anne Bell (Joe Spooner). A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 1:00 P. M., in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 100 N. E. 1st Street, Gainesville, FL, with The Rev. Jeremy Hole, officiating.
