Obituary of Barbara-O-Brien McGee


Mrs. Barbara O'Brien McGee, a former teacher in the Carmel Central School District, died on Sunday, November 16 in an automobile accident in Lake Placid, Florida. She was 71 years old. Born August 18, 1932, in New York, Mrs. McGee graduated from Marymount College and received a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from Columbia Teachers' College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Manhattanville College. She taught first, second, and fourth grades in Carmel for 20 years, retiring in 1989. Following her retirement, Mrs. McGee moved to Pinehurst, NC, where she lived for 6 years before moving to Boca Raton, Marathon Island and, ultimately, Sebring, Florida. Mrs. McGee was the wife of Norman S. McGee, Jr., who predeceased her. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey O. McGee, Haywards Heath, UK, James B. McGee, Rye, NH, Barry A. McGee, Indianola, IA, Philip M. McGee, Cherry Hill, NJ; her daughter Kimberly D. Mayer, Raleigh, NC; her sister, Diane Cahill, Pittsburgh, PA; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. James the Apostle in Carmel, NY, on December 13, at 10:00 a.m. Mrs. McGee will be interred at the Quantico National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, 3 Forest Street, New Canaan, CT 06840 (phone: 203-972-1250).
