ObituaryAlice Elizabeth "Libby" Varnes Lanier, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday May 31st, 2005 in Fort Myers FL. She was born February 5th, 1933 in Jacksonville FL. She and her family moved to Fort Myers FL in 1964. Libby worked in the Lee County School System for 14 years prior to retiring.Libby was preceded in death a short two months ago by her husband of 49 years John "Toby" Orton Lanier, JR. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father Woodrow Wilson Varnes and Maude Highsmith Varnes of Jacksonville FL. Libby is survived by her children: two daughters Teresa Marie Lanier of Gainesville FL and Patricia Ann Lanier of Lehigh Acres FL; two sons John David Lanier (Ashley) of Cape Coral FL and Thomas Wilson Lanier of Fort Myers FL; four grandchildren: Donald Warren Jungferman JR, Brian Philip Jungferman, Alexander Douglas Lanier, Nicholas David Lanier; one great grandchild Brayden Philip Jungferman. She is also survived by her sister Marie Anderson (Bill) of St. George, GA and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 4th at 1 p.m. at Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home on 1600 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. Internment at 4:30 p.m. in Fort Ogden (Desoto County) Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or a donation in Libby's memory may be made to American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 1131 Fairfax VA 22038-1131 or to The Arthritis Foundation 501 Village Green Parkway Bradenton FL 34209.
