Alan C. Davis, born in 1921, son of Franklin and Florence, father of Margaret, Kay, Christine A, Bill and Roger, died on January 6, 2011 at 89 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Alan C. Davis, 89, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Exeter Healthcare. He was born June 10, 1921 in Cambridge, MA the son of the late Franklin M. and Florence M. (Cummings) Davis. Mr. Davis grew up in Waltham, MA and was a graduate of Waltham High School and attended Wentworth Institute. He was a first Lieutenant serving with the US Army-Air Forces during WWII as a navigator/bombardier. He flew B24 missions in the European Theater until being shot down and detained as a POW by the Germans from December 1944 until May 1945. After the war he married the late Madolyn (Spencer) Davis, his wife of more than 50 years. He and his family moved to Concord, MA in 1954 where they lived until they relocated to California in 1980. Upon retirement in 1986, they moved to Exeter to be closer to their grandchildren. He was a mechanical engineer and worked for Raytheon in Waltham and Bedford, MA and finally at Applied Magnetics Corp in California. He was a member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Brentwood and the D.A.V. Chapter of Exeter. He enjoyed using his engineering skills to design and build everything from parachute releases, to toys, bird houses, furniture, stair cases and docks. His artistic interests included writing, oil painting, and sculpting. Family members include his sons, Spencer W. Davis and his wife, Jackie Rockel of Exeter, Wayne C. Davis and his companion, Roxanne Ferrin of Hampton, and his grandchildren, Evan S. Davis and Adrienne N. Davis. Mr. Davis was predeceased by his son, Roger Davis, his brother, Franklin M. Davis and his sister, Marcia Landsdowne. A Celebration of his life will be held at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Route 111A, Brentwood, Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, MA at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Daniel Webster Council, Boy Scouts of America, 571 Holt Avenue, Manchester, NH 03109 or at, www.nhscouting.org your local D.A.V Chapter, or to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
