Ada Dee Stephenson AMERICUS - Ada Dee Stephenson, 84, formerly of Tallahassee, a retired elementary school teacher, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frank J. Stephenson. The service will be at 2 p.m. EST Sunday, Jan. 4, at Magnolia Manor Chapel in Americus, with burial at 2 p.m. EST Saturday, Jan. 17, at Roselawn Cemetery, Piedmont Drive, in Tallahassee.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 241 John Knox Road, Suite 100, Tallahassee, FL 32303, or Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, GA 31709. Bevis Funeral Home (385-2193 orwww.bevisfuneral.com)is handling local arrangements.Born Oct. 26, 1919, in Belton, Ky., she moved to Meridian, Miss., at age 6. She was a graduate of Meridian High School, Hinds Junior College and the University of South Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education. She taught elementary school in Winter Haven for many years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and was a PEO. She was a member of Lee Street United Methodist Church in Americus and was formerly a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee.Ada Dee loved her husband, her family and her church. She was a lovely Christian woman with a warm Southern touch. Other survivors include a daughter, Ann S. Lumsden (and husband Robert S.) of Tallahassee; a brother, Tommy Pogue of Kentucky; two sisters, Peggy Cook of Texas and Sis Rosaland of Iowa; three grandsons, Robert Lumsden, Clay Lumsden and Clint Lumsden; two granddaughters, Sharon Stephenson and Charlotte Stephenson; three stepgrandchildren, Teresa Connor, Steve Connor and Darla Connor; four great-grandsons, Zachary, Hugh, Aidan and Dawson; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Stephenson of Las Vegas; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel Garfield Pogue and Blanche Thedora Parker Pogue; a son, F. Joe Stephenson; a sister, Margaret James; and two brothers, Nelson Pogue and Herschel Pogue Jr.
