Born on September 17, 1938 in Calabria, Italy to Nicola and Judita Romano, he immigrated to the United States in 1971 and lived in NY until 1980. Mr. Romano along with his family, relocated to Cape Coral in 1980 where he has resided ever since. Throughout the years he worked as a mason and a handyman.Affectionately known as Tony to his friends and loved ones, his greatest pleasure came from being surrounded by his large family, and host of friends. He spent a great deal of his time playing cards and socializing at the Tony Rotino Senior Center in Cape Coral. He was recently granted a "wish" by the Rotino Center and in true fashion, that wish was to have a big party to celebrate his 51st wedding anniversary and 72nd birthday.Tony is preceded in death by his grandson, Giuseppe A. Romano. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 51 years, Maria; his 8 children, daughters, Julie (John) DeVoy, Antonetta (Jim) Bohn; sons, Nicola (Rita) Romano, Pasquale (Margie) Romano, Giuseppe (Dawn) Romano, Giancarlo (Virginia) Romano, Sisto (Isabelle) Romano, Claudio (Wendy) Romano; brother, Pino Romano; sister, Maria Candido; grandchildren, Sonny, Tony, Alyssa, Briana, Frankie, Francesca, Johnny, Isaiah, Jacqueline, Steven, Vinnie, Richie, Jonah, Brittany, Claudio, Mikey, Savannah, Nicholas, Nica, Anthony, Luke and Christopher and many loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Tony was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.Honoring his request, the family will have a memorial mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2133 Heitman Street, Fort Myers, Florida 33902 on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. His cremated remains will be taken to Calabria, Italy to be buried with his parents. The family suggests memorial donations be made in his name to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy. E, Cape Coral, Florida 33909. Arrangements are being handled by Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
