September 19, 1918 to December 28, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband and father, Stephen Gardiner, with his family at his side, at Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver. He leaves behind Shirley (nee Boucock), his wife of 63 years. His four children, Merrilee (Suvro), James (Darla), Graham and Margaret (Greg), four grandsons, three granddaughters and one great grandson. Steve was born in Limerick, Sask. Steve then joined the RCAF and served as a Navigator Observer in Ceylon, India and Burma until 1945. Upon returning to Canada he enrolled at UBC graduating in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. He worked in the forest industry until 1962 when he began his own engineering company, S.G. Gardiner Engineering. He specialized in large forestry projects in many parts of the world. He lived a full life and was loved and respected by many. A memorial service will be held at Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Blvd, North Vancouver on Tuesday January 3, 2012 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Highlands United Church or Lions Gate Hospital Foundation in North Vancouver.
