Van Horn, John G. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. John Garrett Van Horn, 76, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at his home. Born June 10, 1932 on a dairy farm in Allamuchy, N.J., the son of Garrett and Clara Van Horn. A graduate from Hackettstown High School, class of 1950, he was awarded a football scholarship to play for the Washington Huskies. He attended the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash. from 1950-1954. He was a 1st Lt. in the Army at Fort Ord, Calif. in the transportation unit until 1956. He worked for the John Deere Company for 10 years as a territory manager from 1956-1966 and in 1966 for Moore Business Forms in Albany, N.Y. where he specialized in custom business forms and printing services. He retired in 1991. Mr. Van Horn was married on September 11, 1954 to Elizabeth Mae Huizenga. He is the father of John G. Van Horn II and his wife Sherry; Elizabeth M. Jones, her husband Mike and their daughter Brooke; and Melanie A. Balestra and her husband Mike and their children, Sara, Michael and Mark. He was a kind gentle giant of a man; always giving never taking. He carried a clipping given to him by his mother before he left for college that said, "There is never a right way to do a wrong thing". John Van Horn walked the walk and he believed in being grateful for all of the blessings in life. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, Saratoga Rd., Burnt Hills. Calling hours will be this evening at the Glenville Funeral home, 9 Glenridge Rd. from 6 - 8 p.m. John will be laid to rest at the Saratoga (Gerald B.H. Solomon) National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, N.Y.
