She was born Nov. 1, 1920, Nashville, daughter of Mary Thompson Orr and Samuel Orr who predeceased her, as did her brother, John Orr and sister, Mary Orr Jordan. She grew up in Nashville, attended Ward-Belmont School, Randolph-Macon Woman's College and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1942. During World War II, she drove Army trucks in Washington D.C. Returning to Nashville, she met Ensign John Davis and they married in 1946. They later lived in Seattle where they raised their three children. An outdoors enthusiast, she was a member of a hiking group for 40 years, exploring many Washington State trails. She enjoyed tennis, golf and swimming in Puget Sound. She was an astute grammarian who wrote stories and poems. Survivors include her children, Anne Harrison (Paul), Carey Hunter Davis (Wilson Abbott), John Davis (Kathleen Macferran) and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be Oct. 19 in Seattle. Bonney-Watson Funeral Home, Seattle, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Travellers Rest Museum, 636 Farrell Parkway, Nashville, TN 37220.
