EAST CALAIS - Elsie M. Armstrong, 94, of George Road in East Calais,died Thursday, Aug. 5 2010, at her home. She was born in Plainfield on May 7, 1916, to Karl and Octavia (Smith) Woodcock. She attended the Plainfield School and graduated from Plainfield High School. She was married to Edward Armstrong in Plainfield. Elsie was employed as a housekeeper at Goddard Collage in Plainfield, the Brown Derby in Montpelier and Hutchison's Garden in East Montpelier. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Plainfield, the United Methodist Women, Plainfield Grange, the Womens' Temperance Union and was past president of the Plainfield PTA. She is survived by daughters Elizabeth Denton of Poland, Maine and Irene Monteith of Daytona Fla.; sons, John Armstrong of East Calais and David Armstrong of Barre; brother, Carlton Woodcock of Daytona Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is predeceased by her husband; sons, Arthur and Edward Jr.; brothers, Frank, Rudolph and Francis; and her sister Blanche. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. in the Grace Methodist Church in Plainfield. Burial will be in the Plain-Mont Cemetery Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Barber & Lanier Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Montpelier.
