Dennis W. Williams Dennis W. Williams, 60, director of information systems for BRPH Engineers and Architects, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, in the Grand Bahamas. He is survived by his wife, Alexandra Penn Williams. The service will be at 2 p.m. EDT Sunday at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel (893-4177), with burial at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park.Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 2921 Roberts Ave., Tallahassee, FL 32310. Dennis started his cave-diving career while living in the Bahamas in the '60s. While flying over the islands, he observed hundreds of mysterious blue holes. He was a man who truly epitomized the word cave diver.He was one of the world's premier cave explorers. Dennis found and mapped caves around the planet, from the Bahamas to Mexico, Cuba, Alaska, Hawaii, the Philippines and the Canary Islands and back again. Throughout his explorations, cave conservation ranked as rule No.1. He was always an avid teacher, first as a flight instructor in the Bahamas certifying hundreds of pilots and then as an NAUI open-water and NACD and NSS-CDS cave instructor.His lectures and presentations on cave formation and biology were second to none in the world of academia. He was one of the great innovators of equipment design and diving techniques. In the course of his endeavors, he developed many techniques and devices to make his explorations easier and safer. He delighted in sharing them with everyone he came in contact with.Other survivors include three sons, Kirk Williams, Keith Williams and Panos Galanopoulos; a daughter, Lora Marie Williams; a sister, Cheryl Jones; and six grandchildren.
