SMITH, VELMA LETSON age 100, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2011. Born November 8, 1910, in Guntersville, Mrs. Smith was a long-time resident of Hueytown and member of Hueytown First United Methodist Church. She was passionate about music and music education. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of more than fifty years, Marshall Lee Smith. She is survived by her son, Marshall W. Smith (Sheila Bonham) of Midlothian, Virginia; her granddaughter, Heather L.S. Cooper (Matt) of Richmond, Virginia; and her grandson Matthew W. Smith of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Funeral services will be held at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 11:00 am with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family on Monday, March 28 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Ministries of Hueytown First United Methodist Church. >
