Thelma Lee Whitaker, age 97, former Nara Visa, NM, resident, passed away in Amarillo,TX, on Friday, July 3, 2009.  Thelma Whitaker was born on August 28, 1911, to Charles W. and Arminta Daniel Farley in Roy, NM. She married Lester Whitaker in July of 1932. They lived in Nara Visa, NM, until 1974, when they retired and moved to Amarillo, TX. She had been a member of the Nara Visa United Methodist Church. Surviving Thelma Whitaker is her son, Winston Whitaker and wife, Berna of Albuquerque, NM;  daughter,  Donna Dismukes and husband, Richard  of DeSoto, TX; brother,  Fred Farley of Carson City, NV, and grandchildren, Cheryl Meier of   Mansfield TX, Mary Beth Drake of Albuquerque, NM, Dana Sasarita of  Sierra Visat, AZ, Debbie Cassady of Albuquerque, NM, Billy D. Clark of  Gallup, NM, Lee Dismukes of Dallas TX, Bree Anne Robinson of Austin  TX; 11  great-grandchildren; 7 great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Marsha Goebel. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; 5 brothers; 1 sister, and 1 daughter. Services celebrating her life will be conducted on Tuesday afternoon in the Center Street United Methodist Church beginning at 1:30 PM with Rev Robert Sawyer Methodist Minister of Lubbock, T, officiating.  Pall bearers will  be Lee Dismukes, Kevin Robinson, Jordan Drake, Davie Meier, Austin Drake, and Ben Meier. Honorary bearers will be D.J. Bell, Greg Guilllen, Ryan Cassady and Billy Dale Clark. Interment will follow in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Family suggests for those who wish, donations may be made to the Nara Visa United Methodist Church, Nara Visa, NM 88430 or to their favorite charity.
