Born on Dec. 1, 1946 in Elmira, Sandra was the daughter of the late Earl & Jeanette Aumick VanBenCoten. She married Donald Gilbert on Aug. 20, 1966 in the Webb Mills United Methodist Church. Sandra was employed by Elmira City School Dist. as a cafeteria worker for many years at the Ernie Davis and Southside High Schools. Her interests and main focus was that of her family. Surviving is her loving family, husband, Donald Gilbert; children, Scott (Kim) Gilbert, Pine City; Tim (Jenn) Gilbert, Big Flats; Kimberly Gilbert, Gillett, PA; 8 grandchildren, Courtney, Katelyn, Jon, Megan, Jerry, Jacob, Gavin, and Chloe; siblings, Joyce (Bob) Carpenter, Paula (Dan) Usack, and Joseph (Diane) VanBenCoten; brothers-in-law, Charlie (Lisa) Gilbert, Tim (Karen) Gilbert, Charles (Terri) Gilbert, and Glenn (Terri) Gilbert; several nieces, nephews, and family friends, including Sandy Sterling, Leonard & Dianne Kulago. In addition to her parents, Sandra was predeceased by her in-laws, Donald & Gloria Gilbert; and Virginia Gilbert; sister-in-law, Donna Farmer; and special nephew, Michael Gilbert. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Sat. Feb. 28, 2015 between the hours of 5-8 pm. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 8:15 pm with Rev. Bill Vallet officiating with interment at the family's convenience in Hanlon Hill Cemetery, Bentley Creek, PA.
