JOHNSON, Ruth Velaura April 18, 1921 ~ January 4, 2015 Location revised.Ruth, 93 years of age, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 4, 2015 at St. Joseph's Auxillary Hospital. Ruth is survived by her daughters Joan (Lionel) Durand, Donna (Arthur) Wilson and son Warren (Diane) Johnson; grandchildren Amy (Robb) Melnyk, Trevor Wilson, Catherine (Mat) Wedman, Kyle Wilson and Quinn Johnson; great-grandchildren Kalin, Ty, Noah, Avery and Sydney; her sister Helen and brother Harold; numerous nieces and nephews; other close family members, and many dear friends.Born in Hughenden, AB to Rev. Axel and Minnie Eriksson, Ruth had 6 brothers and 1 sister. She married Lloyd Williams, also from Hughenden in 1944 and had 2 daughters. She was widowed in 1953 when Lloyd Williams was lost on a medical evacuation flight from Grande Prairie to Edmonton in a plane crash north of Whitecourt, which was not found for 9 months. In 1958 she married Lloyd Johnson and had a son. She was widowed for a second time in 2013. She was also predeceased by granddaughters Christine and Carol.Her family, her church (Augustana Lutheran) and her faith were central to her life. Ruth along with Lloyd enjoyed her retirement gardening, spending time with family and travelling. She was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and had endless patience nurturing these bonds. For the past few years she enjoyed her friends and staff at Laurel Heights Retirement Residence. Ruth will be long remembered for her smiling face, warm heart, hospitality and great cooking. She enjoyed decorating wedding cakes, baking and crafts. There was always room at her table for one more and her door was always open.Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton. Ruth will be interred at Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery at a small family gathering at a later date.
