Ruth E. Williams, 84 KENNEBUNKPORT -- Ruth E. Williams, 84, of Kennebunkport, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born in Biddeford, July 2, 1924, the daughter of Andrew and Mabel (Brooks) Davis. She attended schools in Biddeford. At the age of 12, she won a national contest which led to the 'Slow Children Playing' signs you see today. In 1953 she married Robert H. Williams. They were married for 43 years. He passed away in 1996. Together they owned and operated Ocean View Foreign Motors in Kennebunkport. In her early years she enjoyed motorcycle riding and camping with her family. She also enjoyed sailing, sketching, walking on the beach, yard sales and spending time with her family. Along with her husband, she was predeceased by six brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Pearson and her husband Mike of Richmond, Pam Bean and her husband Elden of Vienna, her son Jim Williams and his wife Jody of Kennebunk; her sister Wilma Williams of Saco; five grandchildren, David, Rob, Jessica, Jason and Shannon; four great-granddaughters, Destiny, Aidanne, Dylan and Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Southern Maine in the last few months for their efforts in Ruth's care. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Aug. 17, from 2-4 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A graveside service will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m., at Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk.
