Faust, Robert J.April 20, 2008Colonel Robert J. Faust, 91, Bradenton, died April 20, 2008.Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Manasota Memorial Funeral Home in Bradenton. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Bradenton. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Kirby Stewart Post #24 immediately following the Mass. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alte; daughters Monte Davis and Marianne Richardson; 7 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildrenRobert graduated from George Washington University, Washington, D.C., with a degree in military science and subsequently obtained a master's degree in personnel administration from the University of Maryland. He was a U.S. Army artillery commander liaison, in support of the 3rd Chinese Army, under Chiang Kai-shek, fighting the Japanese in Burma. He was awarded the Bronze Star with 'V' for Valor and the Soldiers Medal for Heroism for personal bravery. After the war, he was assigned to the Pentagon, where he was instrumental in developing more efficient methods for requisitioning artillery equipment and ammunition. Also, he developed contingency plans for possible military involvements around the world.Before moving to Florida, he lived in Mount Vernon, Va., and Hilton Head, S.C., where he mentored under-privileged children. He built three homes in these locations. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and he enjoyed golf and bocce.
