Rita O'Donnell Davis, 97, of Westvale, died peacefully at home on Sunday. She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Terri) of Westvale and Christopher of Syracuse; six daughters, Deborah (Kent) Wilcox of Howell, NJ, Mary (Daniel) Doherty of Westvale, Melanie (Michael) Colomb of Chesterfield, VA, Denise Stevens (Thomas Kelly) of Brick, NJ, Kay (Joe) Banaszek of Camillus and Alicia (Michael) McInerney of Marcellus; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Kenneth William Davis (An original "stone thrower"); two sisters, Mary Doris Lynch and Madeline (Cled) Casey; and a brother, Eugene T. O'Donnell. Rita was a life resident of the Syracuse area. She was an avid sportswoman and SU Basketball fan. Until recently she regularly played golf, bowled and mowed the lawn. In her youth, she was a star basketball player at Turners at 619 N. Salina St. In their retirement years, she and Kenny spent many relaxing summers at their camp in Sandy Pond. Prior to her marriage, Rita was employed by New York Telephone and later, was the first female dispatcher for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1977. Mrs. Davis was a communicant of St. Charles of Borromeo Catholic Church, Geddes. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loved by all, she will remain in our hearts forever. Services will be held Thursday 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be private. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York, 990 7th North St. Liverpool, NY 13088 Date of Death: September 22, 2013
